FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Coaching: What to ExpectJune 9, 2005 -- "Coaching sounds like a great idea. I want to finally open the restaurant I've been dreaming of, but I just can't seem to get it all together. But what is coaching really like?" Coaching is flexible. It's really based very specifically on a clients' needs. However, there are some common elements. I believe strongly in the power of assessment. One of our first tasks will be doing some assessment of your personality, strengths and weaknesses, and goals. You're likely to do one (or several) internet-based tests. Then, of course, we'll discuss the results in detail. This gives you an idea of the subtle aspects of how you work best. Coaching is particularly focused on working with your strengths. I know traditional wisdom has us identifying our weaknesses and working hard to overcome them. And some of that is necessary. But people actually do much better when they find their strengths and capitalize on those! I'll also interview you as to your history, experience, goals and dreams. I'm always amazed how little people know of what they really want. As children, we say, "Mom and Dad, I want a bicycle. I promise if I get a bicycle, I'll ride it everyday. I will be SO happy I will never ask for anything else!" And we believe it (but our parents don't!). I find that we do the same thing as adults. We are a little more subtle about it. We think we want a lot of money, but when we get it, we realize the money doesn't make us happy. We'd like to own our own business, but when we get it, we realize there are disadvantages to business ownership, as well. Even lottery winners, once they have their millions, can get depressed dealing with the negative aspects of sudden wealth. Once we know you and your goals, it's time for the work to begin. Sessions are completed by telephone so that it's easier on everyone's schedule. It also offers you the capability to hire the perfect coach for you, whether you're in the Netherlands or New York City. Sessions are typically one-half hour weekly, and a great coach will keep you to your time! Remember, the key is efficiency. I love Monday morning coaching, which sets you up for a productive workweek. But sessions are scheduled at your convenience. A three-month commitment is required. The commitment is essential, as things will get hard. During each session, we'll assess progress, brainstorm barriers, and set goals for the next week. It's not unusual for a coach to assign worksheets, reading, or experiments. We may communicate by email during the week, at times. Some people continue their coaching for up to two years. Many people get coaching for a while, work on their own for a while, and then seek out coaching again. I recommend trying different coaches at different times in your life; everyone has a different perspective and different strengths. Learn from as many teachers as you can! Group coaching sessions are available, either with a group of coworkers or friends, or in a group of strangers. As in all coaching, confidentiality is highly regarded and respected. For a free half-hour coaching session, register with our site, and we'll contact you to schedule your time. Should you choose to pursue coaching, your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed. I am so confident you'll be delighted and successful, that if you are dissatisfied with the coaching experience at any time during your first three months of coaching, your entire fee will be refunded.
